remember kids, friends don’t let friends assume “the boxer” was originally done by mumford & sons.
BLESS THIS FUCKING POST.
(No, seriously. I at one point wrote up and deleted an epic and extended OFFA MY FUCKING LAWN post about this. See also: Hallelujah didn’t originate with Buckley or Wainwright, and Everybody Knows should not be credited to Concrete Fucking Blonde.)
(THAT LAST ONE I SAW IN AN ACTUAL PUBLISHED BOOK ON GEN X THAT MY SPOUSE HAD AS A TEXTBOOK IN A MEDIA STUDIES CLASS.)
Shit, I suppose I should just count myself lucky that no one ever attributed Hazy Shade of Winter to The Bangles somewhere where I could see it.
I feel like back on LJ I had made or seen posts that dealt more with lyrics and I always searched high and low to confirm the original artist just to be on the safe side — and if I didn’t know, I’d discover a new song. Whoo! So yeah, it’s me being grumpy but whatever. It’s “The Boxer”! Come ooon. :(
